This week we learned about chasing your dreams and dreaming big. That caused me to pause and think to myself and ask the following questions. Who or what caused me to stop chasing my dreams? and Do I dream big enough?
I remember as a kid I had big dreams and I wanted to chase them and then one day or more like over time things changed. I didn't believe in myself and I didn't dream big anymore and I was no longer chasing my dreams. Dreams don't chase us, we chase our dreams! I realized this week what it takes to make our dreams come to fruition. I'm going to let you in on what it takes to make your dreams come true. Our dreams don't just land in our lap one day or it isn't like Santa and Christmas where you wake up and your dreams are wrapped up in some pretty wrapping paper with a nice beautiful red bow around it. This is how our dreams happen..... are you ready!? It's hard work, long days and late nights, and hard work! Did I mention it's a lot of hard work?
I interviewed a friend this week, he's a successful entrepreneur and he told me as an entrepreneur it takes hard work to succeed, he says he's the guy putting in over 80 hours a week so he can grow his business and make his dream come true because he's had big dreams. I was thinking to myself, how do I put in 80 hours a week. Then in occurred to me that because I want to graduate with my bachelors degree with honors, I'm that guy putting in 40+ hours at my day job and 40+ hours into my school work every week. I can make this happen! I'm on my way to make my dreams become a reality and it's a big dream. This will be excellent practice for when I graduate and obtain a better job and start my own business.
So what caused me to stop chasing my childhood dreams? I think it was fear of rejection and the word no. For only being two letters in the alphabet No is a mighty big word that crushes a lot of peoples dreams. Then just today as I was playing on a stage this afternoon playing my Honky-Tonk country music to a large crowd and passersby, I realized I am not scared at all to get up to play and not even nervous at all. I get up there and play my songs my way and if people like it great, if they don't they don't have to stay and listen. It was at that point I decided I can do this! I can do anything I want to in life. There's millions and millions of people around the world and with a website and a lot of hard work and late nights I can make this work.
My friend who I interviewed earlier this week shared with me an experience as he was getting his construction company going and said they were all nervous and nothing was going right, there was a lot of yelling going on and it was a very stressful time in his life and especially on that particular project. He was recently on a similar project 2 years later and he was reflecting back and he said this time there wasn't any yelling, everybody knew their roles, they were having fun because they learned, they grew and my friend was able to look back on this experience and see his dream came true. He had his moment where he saw his big dream happen before his eyes. It took hard work, but he didn't throw in the towel after that first project and say "Nope, that was too hard and I'm never doing that again!" No he kept at it, his team kept at it, they worked hard and they dreamed big.
My friends dream big, with the help of our Heavenly Father and our hard work your dreams will come true. If somebody tells you No, somebody else will tell you yes! Chase your dreams because they will not ever chase you!
